1. What is a false alarm? A false alarm occurs when an alarm dispatch request is relayed to the Sheriff’s Office, and the responding deputy finds no evidence of a criminal offense or attempted criminal offense.

2. Why does the Sheriff’s Office need a Local Law related to false alarms? A Local Law addressing false alarms helps decrease the number of false alarms. False alarms take away deputies and other emergency service providers from other essential duties and delay response times to true emergencies.

3. How much is the registration fee? There is no fee unless we receive a false alarm and then the fee will be $50.00.

4. When does the registration expire? The registration will expire after 2 years.

5. What will happen if I don’t register? The property owner will be fined for a false alarm in the amount of $50.00.

6. What is the fee for a false alarm? 1st false alarm per calendar year - $0.00 fine (written warning)
2nd false alarm per calendar year - $50.00 fine
3rd false alarm per calendar year - $75.00 fine
4th false alarm per calendar year - $100.00 fine
Each additional false alarm per calendar year – fine increases by additional $25.00
